Planning a bit of a knees-up for New Year? Well, if you’re looking for some interiors inspiration to set off your celebrations, then simply look north.

After all, our Celtic cousins call it Hogmanay, which sounds much more festive than New Year’s Eve. Whether you’ve got a castle or a studio flat, there’s no reason not to tart things up with some tartan.

A cushion here, a patterned plate there, and suddenly it’s all looking really festive. And while you might not think that antlers and so forth would look appropriate in a suburban semi, dim the lights, light a candle or two, and after a few glasses of bubbly, you won’t know whether you’re in the Highlands or Hendon.
